The People of the Town

There is a saying that "nearer the temple farther from God". This is not at all true about the Angadipuram temple. It is true that a number of Brahmins have left Angadipuram in search of their livelihood. However, they are very emotional about the temple and during their leave from work, they come to the temple regularly. The Hindus in the neighbourhood are very devoted to the temple. During the annual festival they take part in the functions very enthusiastically.
The temple had just enough for its daily expenditure and the essential rituals were going through with clocklike precision. The Trustee being a pious Raja, the public had no complaint about the administration. There was only one lapse from this perfect record, about 1940 or so, when a non-believer son of one Raja, keeping his old father away from public contact, got a power of attorney from him, and with the help of a Christian Inspector of Police, opened the treasury of the temple and looted its contents.
In general the people are very enthusiastic about the annual festival and now on the last day of the puram they have organised a procession , similar to the Trichur Puram starting about 2 miles from the temple, with fireworks etc.
